The Role of Investigations
The Office of Investigations (OI) role within OIG is to conduct investigations and oversight activities relating to programs and operations of the USCP. OI is responsible for the prevention, detection, and investigation of fraud, waste, and abuse in connection with USCP employees, operations, and contractors.
Types of Investigations:
- serious egregious employee misconduct
- procurement and financial fraud
- other criminal or illegal acts committed by external parties against the USCP
OI receives and investigates complaints and information from employees, contractors, members of the public, and Congress alleging criminal or other violations of laws, rules, or regulations.
Our criminal and civil investigative resources focus on:
(a) illegal or criminal acts in violation of Title 18 U.S. Code such as fraud, bribery, false statements, conflicts of interest;
(b) violations of the House Ethics Rules; and
(c) misconduct on the part of senior USCP officials.
OIG investigations can lead to criminal prosecution or civil or administrative action.
