The Role of Inspections and Evaluations
The role of Inspections and Evaluations is to deliver independent assessments of the design, implementation, and results of U.S. Capitol Police operations, programs, or policies. Inspections and Evaluations are generally focused and flexible, allowing for more agile oversight and timely results. They assess the effectiveness of operations, identify potential efficiencies and cost-saving measures, and identify problems and recommend solutions. USCP OIG performs Inspections and Evaluations in accordance with the Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation issued by the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE).
- Inspections provide timely, independent assessments of programs and operations. Inspections provide information that is timely, credible, and useful for management, policymakers, and stakeholders.
Evaluations provide an additional method to independently review programs and operations to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. Evaluations provide management with findings and practical recommendations to enhance programs operations, efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
